As far as consultation, surgery preparation and the actual surgery are concerned, the same principles as for all other operations apply. The procedure will be performed by Dr. Matejic either under general anesthesia or, in the case of smaller amounts of injection, under semi-conscious sedation.
First, a liposuction is performed from a suitable body region, which should yield at least the amount of fat that is to be injected into the breasts, generally between 100-400ml of autologous fat per breast. If too much fat is injected into a breast, it cannot be incorporated because the fat cells cannot access the blood veins and die. As a general rule, about 40-50% of the injected fat will be lost. The autologous fat obtained is washed in a closed system to separate blood, lymph and tumescent solution. The purified fat is then filled into a syringe and injected into the breast through a small puncture. Accurate and symmetrical injection is crucial for the final outcome.
For the follow-up treatment of the breast augmentation by autologous fat transfer, the same principles as for the breast augmentation with implants apply. Postoperatively, a well-fitting bra is important. All sports activities should rest for a period of at least 4 weeks. Sleeping on the front is to be avoided under all circumstances. You will experience only slight discomfort that can be managed with mild pain killers. An incapacity for work for a period of seven days is to be expected. In case of fat loss on one or both sides, the procedure has to be repeated. The puncture incisions are postoperatively hardly recognizable.
