Equally often as about breasts which are too small, women complain about being “too well-endowed”, as they suffer from considerable discomfort in the shoulder and neck area as well as from spinal pain, which may develop and increase over the years.
Apart from the sports restrictions and the considerable difficulties finding clothes that fit, the so-called macromastia or gigantomastia can be a terrible nuisance in social interactions.
Whether it is a small, medium or large macromastia, the reduction process is essentially determined by the shape, position, hypertrophy characteristics, mammilla-areola complex size and the ptosis characteristics of your breast.
From the many different reduction techniques we will find the one that is best for you in terms of safety and desired outcome. A breast reduction belongs in the hands of an experienced surgeon. For all these reasons Dr. Matejic takes a lot of time to explain to you all the essential information and to show you the expected outcome with the help of his image collection that comprises thousands of pictures. All potential (although not necessarily expected) complications, as well as ways of dealing with them, will be explained to you.
Basically, the operation proceeds as follows. While you are standing, your breasts will be marked before the operation. These auxiliary lines are important, as they will guide the surgeon during the operation. Dr. Matejic will personally provide you with final information, after which and after a mild anesthetic induction, you will gently fall asleep. Your chest will be surgically washed and covered with sterile surgical garment.
The operation lasts 2.5 – 4 hours, depending on the complexity of the macromastia. Postoperatively you will have to wear a chest bandage for 24 hours. Any postoperative pain will be effectively soothed with medication, so you will not experience any considerable pain. Dr. Matejic will check your condition one last time before you go to bed in the evening. The next morning the drainages will be removed completely painlessly, and after the bandage have been changed, your compression bra will be fitted. After that you are free to leave the clinic with an accompanying person. You will be given all additional relevant information. You will be given two further appointments within 12-14 days after the operation and upon removal of the stitches. Should the need arise, you may also contact Dr. Matejic to arrange another follow-up appointment, so he can answer all the questions you may have.
Dr. Matejic will operate on minors only in compliance with strict regulations. As a general rule, Dr. Matejic recommends to wait with this operation after any family planning has been completed. Exceptional circumstances may always apply.
The final outcome may not be assessed until 3-6 months after the operation.
